Flights to Lake Placid can be to any of the following airports:

For flights to airports other than Saranac Lake, we recommend renting a car and driving. (Best rates can usually be found at http://www.sidestep.com ) Note that travelers going through Montreal will have to go through Canadian customs at the airport and U. S. customs at the border. For those going through Burlington, VT, you will need to cross Lake Champlain via ferry. Check out the schedule and reservation requirements .

There are a small number of flights from Boston (BOS) to Saranac Lake (SLK) on Cape Air . You can use LaVigne's Taxi Service to provide transportation to and from the Saranac Lake Airport. Their phone number is 518-891-2444. Please make advance arrangement prior to arrival to avoid any unnecessary delays. Other taxi services include: Carrow's 518-523-9091, Mountain 518-891-2444, Rick's 518-523-4741 and Ground Force 518-523-4741.

For your information: one way taxi charges from the airports to Lake Placid are approximately: Saranac Lake, NY (SLK) $30, Burlington, VT (BTV) $180, Albany, NY (ALB) $200. A return taxi trip from Albany is more costly than the car rental rate for the entire time.

The Adirondack Trailways bus company provides limited bus service. There is one bus a day from the Albany airport leaving at 1:50 PM and arriving at 5:40 PM, and one bus a day from Montreal (downtown) leaving at 9:00 AM and arriving at 5:40 PM with a 1:55 layover in Glenns Falls. From Lake Placid to Albany airport the bus leaves at 11:20 AM and arrives at 3:20 PM. From Lake Placid to Montreal the bus leaves at 11:20 AM and arrives at 8:05 PM with a 2:05 layover in Glenns Falls. (This is the schedule as of January 2009. The fares are $64 round trip from Albany and $130 round trip from Montreal.)

You can also take trains from New York City, Montreal or other locations. The local stop is in Westport, NY (40 minutes from Lake Placid). Shuttle bus service from the train station to Lake Placid can be reserved as part of your Amtrak ticket from New York City.
